Klarna Successfully IPOs: How is Yourasset Different to Klarna?

Written by Stephan Kolz | Sep 11, 2025 10:58:13 AM

Congratulations to Klarna on their successful IPO on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the New York Stock Exchange. The Swedish buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) pioneer is now valued at USD 17 billion, as its shares rose from the listing price of USD 40 to close the first trading day at USD 45.82.

In 2021, Klarna was briefly valued at over USD 45 billion in a private financing round. Affirm, a U.S.-based competitor of Klarna, has been listed on the stock exchange since February 2021 and is currently valued at USD 28 billion.

Founded in 2005, Klarna pioneered the BNPL model

Sebastian Siemiatkowski co-founded Klarna in Stockholm in 2005 and has since transformed the company from a buy-now-pay-later provider into a more comprehensive financial and payment services company. While their focus remains on their 0% unregulated BNPL offering for smaller-ticket items, they are also growing their card, platform, and financing businesses.

How is Yourasset different from Klarna?

We sometimes refer to Yourasset as "the Klarna for luxury products." But that's not all.

Yourasset offers regulated financing solutions for purchasing luxury products and assets. Yourasset does not act as a bank or lender; instead, we partner with established banks. The banks benefit from new customers. Our luxury merchant partners benefit from easy integration into their e-commerce platforms and higher customer approval rates because Yourasset works with multiple banks, unlike Klarna and Affirm, which are simply one lender.

Beyond a simple credit check, Yourasset and its banking partners perform an affordability check. Together we review the customer's individual financial situation, ensuring that the financing aligns with their budget. Yourasset provides customers with transparency in their personal login accounts. This transparency extends beyond the entire transaction process to include their financial profile. This is very important to us. We wrote a separate Blog article comparing 0% BNPL with regulated financing.

Yourasset enables the financing of sustainable luxury assets

Customers can purchase luxury assets, such as watches, bags, and jewelry, over 12 to 60 months, with values up to CHF 250,000. Customers benefit from the flexibility to align their purchases with their monthly income. They also protect themselves against future price inflation or appreciation because they lock in today's purchase price. Furthermore, customers can deduct interest costs from their taxable income in Switzerland. You can read more about that in our separate Blog article.

Introducing the Collectors Leasing: A worlds first

The Collectors Leasing from Yourasset offers customers and collectors the opportunity to borrow against their existing watch or luxury asset collection. For the first time worldwide. Unlock the tied-up liquidity in your luxury watch and luxury bag collection and use the capital for another purchase or an investment. You keep your watches and luxury assets and must not deposit them with Yourasset. Read more about the Collectors Leasing on our website or contact us.

It's a market full of opportunities!

We are excited to see how Klarna and Affirm continue to develop. We are also excited to build Yourasset, which focuses on the luxury market and the specific needs of its customers. Perhaps there will be an opportunity for collaboration in the future.
