The new Classic Fusion Tributo revisits Carlo Crocco’s original idea, with two 38mm models that reveal a different side of Hublot.** Picture a Hublot, and a bold Big Bang might come to mind. But the brand’s story began with something considerably more restrained: a slim gold watch, an almost empty black dial and a rubber strap. In 1980, that combination was unconventional. Today, it feels remarkably familiar. With the new Classic Fusion Tributo, Hublot returns to the design that established its identity, bringing it into 2026 in yellow and white gold. ## The idea that became Hublot Carlo Crocco understood the appeal of contrast. Gold brought warmth, weight and prestige. Rubber offered flexibility, comfort and a sporting character. Putting them together challenged expectations of what a luxury watch should look and feel like. The original watch appeared under the MDM Genève name. Its round bezel, secured by 12 exposed screws, suggested a ship’s porthole: *hublot* in French. The name eventually became the brand, while the meeting of contrasting materials developed into Hublot’s “Art of Fusion” philosophy. Looking back, the design’s confidence is striking. There was little on the dial to distract from the case and strap. Both references measure 38mm across and 9.5mm thick, keeping the proportions compact. The 12-screw bezel returns, giving these watches a closer visual connection to the original than the six-screw arrangement familiar from contemporary Classic Fusion models. Those screws also serve as hour markers, leaving the black dial open and uncluttered. A date window sits at three o’clock, while the MDM signature at six recalls Hublot’s earliest chapter. The yellow gold reference, **262.VX.1130.RX.MDM**, makes the most direct connection to Crocco’s design. Brushed and polished gold surfaces surround a matte black lacquered dial, continuing into a ribbed black rubber strap. Both watches offer 100 metres of water resistance, giving the elegant proportions a practical foundation. These updates make sense because they support the original idea.
